On-premise server — a dedicated PC or rack server in your office. Your data stays with you, internal systems work without internet, one-time cost. Downsides: power, cooling, backups, and updates are your responsibility; hardware ages out in 5–6 years.
Cloud server — a VPS or dedicated server at a provider. No upfront cost, access from anywhere, easy to scale. Downsides: the monthly fee adds up over years, nothing works when the internet is down, and storing a large video archive in the cloud is expensive.
Hybrid — the option we recommend most often. Camera archive, 1C, and file server on-premise (fast and independent of the internet); backups and your website/bot in the cloud. Even if the office burns down, yesterday's data is safe in the cloud.
On cost: an on-premise server is a one-off purchase plus annual maintenance; the cloud is a monthly fee that can exceed the cost of a local server over a few years, but with no hardware risk or upfront investment. Hybrid adds a small monthly fee for cloud backups on top of the local server.
3 things to do regardless: 3-2-1 backups (3 copies, 2 media types, 1 off-site), a UPS (at least 15 minutes), and an annual restore drill — what matters is not having a backup but being able to restore from it.
